SKATING SCHOOL

TUITION FOR BEGINNERS AT THE DUNEDIN
ICE STADIUM
The Kiwi Skate
programme has developed
lessons endorsed by the NZISA to introduce
people of all ages into ice skating activities,
and to develop basic skills on ice. It is
mainly for school children, although all ages
from 4 year olds to pensioners
are encouraged to
participate.
The national
KIWI SKATE programme is either run by the ice
rinks, or the local ice skating clubs. The KIWI
SKATE programme in Dunedin is undertaken
in cooperation with the Dunedin
Ice Skating Club and the DUNEDIN ICE
STADIUM.
The main
objectives of the Kiwi Skate school programme
are to improve a skater’s confidence and skills
on the ice. A series of ice skating skills
tests have been developed
by the NZISA. Skaters are issued with
awards as they pass each level of
acheivement.
Another
important element of Kiwi Skate lessons is the
social interaction and fun aspects of skating.
Classes usually include a section dedicated to
fun games and
activities.
Kiwi skate classes
are held during the school term at the Dunedin
Ice Stadium.
